Alex Qin is a second-year Computer Science student at the University of Waterloo. He spent four months on our agents team in Tokyo.

Work life harmony.

Alex's first co-op was 9am to 5pm, in office every single day, commute so long the day ran for 10 hours.

Jurin AI was his second co-op. He expected the same routine, until he learnt the term “work life harmony”.

He worked from noon, took a dinner break, came back for the 9pm team sync.

"You can work anytime you want. There's no set time to work or set time to rest. Whenever you feel like working, you work. If I work when I don't want to, my productivity is not very good. So sometimes I'll want to wait a bit later. With work life harmony, you bring out the best productivity time in people."

He felt it was much more productive when the work fits your daily rhythm instead of fighting it.

What he actually built.

We asked Alex how he'd describe Jurin AI to his friends back at Waterloo.

"I'll definitely describe Jurin AI as the best startup in Japan, we work with one third of the top 100 enterprises here."

The project he was most proud of focused on a simple problem.

Managing WhatsApp and LINE accounts doesn’t usually scale well even with AI. You can only handle one account per person. If you have multiple accounts, it quickly becomes hard to keep up.

Alex’s team made it possible for one person to manage multiple WhatsApp and LINE accounts at the same time. Each account has a specific AI agent with its own configured personality, knowledge, and tools to handle incoming and outgoing messages.

“If I’m a customer, I just set how I want the replies to sound, and it runs. You can manage multiple accounts at once. It’s like having your own employees helping you reply.”

What his onboarding buddy taught him.

Coming into Jurin AI, Alex assumed code reviews were basically nonexistent. Things breaking in production was just part of startup life.

"I heard from my friends who go to other startups, their production breaks almost every day. I thought that was kind of normal for startups. But what I learnt here was that you should actually own your PR and make sure everything is very well tested before you push to production."

He's much more critical now, and he wants to carry that same standard into his future co-ops.

He wishes he could’ve gone to the office more.

We’re a 99% remote company so Alex only got the chance to work in the office six times during his internship.

Those few days were precious. He enjoyed going into the office, working together, and spending time in person with other Jumokus. It changed how he thought about office work.

"In my last co-op I didn't want to go to the office at all. But after seeing the office here I actually want to go, and I wish I could’ve gone more often."

Now he wants to test big company vs small.

Alex came into this internship without a fixed direction. His last co-op was pure full stack. He mainly wanted to explore what else was out there.

"Before, I didn't really have a goal. I just wanted to try different types of work. After Jurin, I realized building agents is something that I’m genuinely interested in. It’s probably what I’ll focus on in the future."

At the same time, after seeing what a well-run small team looks like, he also wants to see for himself the other end of the spectrum.

"One of the things Rise told me was to try big company and see how bad it is. So I want to experience it and find out if that's true."

He also mentioned he'd like to come back to Jurin AI someday.
